With the child and a dog - the report on a hike across Crimea in August 2005

In hikes with children I already went and before, and here the dog participated in our action for the first time. rusja - young and terribly thoroughbred erdelterersha has essentially recovered our hike. This time on a route " Water and stones " has gone group of 12 person. 9 from them, that is from us - the cheerful company of muscovites. They have got acquainted with us because of art. In February, 2006 we have decided to merge again with the nature. As range winter Carpathians have been chosen. A winter hike it always serezno, and this time the winter was especially snow and to be prepared it was necessary as follows. It has been decided to go on snowshoes. And from five participants of a hike only one had chances to get firm snowshoes.

The Vapor Barrier

It was mid October when we left for our last hike of the year. The temperature high on that first day was 65�F, so we knew we were in for a chilly night. As we started settling into camp that first evening, the sun dropped behind the mountain range and it felt like the temperature instantly dropped 10 degrees - funny how that happens up high in the mountains (we were at ~10,500 feet). My buddy started scurrying about pulling out all his cold weather gear; goose down parka, polartec vest, heavy wool shirt, thermax long sleeved T-shirt, thermax long-johns, polartec sweat pants, wool cap, and wool gloves. There he stood, all decked out to do battle with the cold, looking as wide as he was tall. Poor fellow could barely move about to do any of his camp chores, and surely without the slightest bit of grace or dignity. I, on the other hand, put on my vapor barrier (VB), a long sleeved thermax T-shirt, a heavy wool shirt, thermax long-johns, polartec sweat pants, a wool caps, and fingerless wool gloves. My buddy looks at me and says "putting plastic against my skin is a sure way for me to be miserable." This is the unfortunate presumption made by most individuals on the use of a VB.

If ever you've been struck by the urge to get up and head to your local mountain and walk around for a bit, there's only one way to pacify this feeling. Go on a day hike. What better way to spend a free afternoon than to lace up your boots and get away from life for awhile than by heading out on the trail for afternoon of solitude? But one thing that many people don't realize is how useful a day hike can be. While it may be a great way to relax, it can be so much more. Learning how to make it such can be a valuable way to make yourself a better hiker.  

Rock climbing

Equipment of the climber (ledorub, cats, krjuchja), its(his) regimentals (the jacket, trousers, boots), the equipment play a huge role at an ascention. Using "arsenal", the climber successfully overcomes obstacles, is covered from a bad weather, protects itself from obmorazhivanija and colds.  

Camp in the mountains

The organization of a bivouac(camp) in mountains has very much great value both at an ascention, and in a hike. In process of promotion upwards and with approach(approximation) a snow line the organization of bivouacs(camps) becomes more and more responsible(crucial) business, and in high mountains safety of the climber frequently depends on the organization of a bivouac(camp) also. The wrong and inept organization of a bivouac(camp) can threaten with serious consequences: the good bivouac(camp) is provided strong with a soya bean and the necessary rest(tour), the bad bivouac(camp) does not give a normal dream without which the nervous system does not receive the necessary rest(tour), and it in turn entails ugnetennoe or an apathetic state which can easily become the reason of failure(accident).
